Carlsen is the most dominant player since Kasparov, but Carlsen just doesn't compare in terms of being a standard bearer for chess. Not trying to take a shot at Carlsen (same could be said for Anand/Kramnik as Carlsen), it's just that Kasparov was something special. His play was extremely dynamic and aggressive.
